August 15-16 Safekeeping: Prints from Lake Whatcom Watershed Workshop

Workshop participants visited The Museo in Bellingham to learn about early 20th century artist, Elizabeth Colborne, and the techniques she used to create stunning woodcut prints of the area’s scenery, many of which are in The Museo’s collection. Then, they embarked on an exploration of the Lookout Mountain Preserve with local naturalist, Alika Herreshoff, to connect with nature and get inspiration to make their own woodcut prints from a forest in the Lake Whatcom Watershed. Finally, the group spent the rest of the weekend at the WWU Lakewood facility where they developed and created their own fantastic woodcut prints under the expert tutelage of celebrated woodcut artist, Charles Spitzack. Thank you to Charles, Alika, and the staff of The Museo who generously shared their time, knowledge, and guidance with workshop participants to raise funds for Whatcom Million Trees Project, and thank you to participants for taking a chance on a new event and supporting our mission!
