August 15-16 Safekeeping: Prints from Lake Whatcom Watershed Workshop

On August 15 and 16 we hosted Safekeeping: Prints from Lake Whatcom Watershed, an immersive 2-day workshop and fundraising event. Workshop participants visited Heidi Wassan at The Museo in Bellingham to learn about early 20th century artist, Elizabeth Colborne, and the techniques she used to create her stunning woodcut prints. Participants hiked Lookout Mountain Preserve with local naturalist, Alika Herreshoff, to learn about the mature forests and special plant communities in the Lake Whatcom watershed and why they’re worth protecting. They spent the rest of the weekend at the WWU Lakewood facility where they learned to create their own spectacular woodcut prints in a workshop led by  woodcut artist, Charles Spitzack. Thank you Charlie, Alika, and Heidi for generously sharing your time, knowledge, and guidance with workshop participants to raise funds for Whatcom Million Trees Project, and thank you to participants for taking a chance on a new event and supporting our mission!
