Free Trees for Bellingham

Whatcom Conservation District and Whatcom Million Trees Project, in partnership with the City of Bellingham, are giving away free yard trees to residents of 5 neighborhoods:
Columbia • Roosevelt • Lettered Streets • Sunnyland • York

— Important update: We’re no longer accepting requests for free trees at this time. —

The tree-request form has been closed due to an overwhelming amount of interest. The trees that were available to residents of the Columbia, Roosevelt Lettered Streets, Sunnyland, and York neighborhoods through the current program have all been assigned to residents who already completed the tree-request form. If you’re interested in future tree give-away events, please sign up here.

If you’ve already requested trees, keep an eye out for an email confirming the date for your tree pick up. Stay tuned for additional information, and thanks so much for making this program a success!

Why trees? The five neighborhoods eligible for our tree giveaway have less tree canopy than other Bellingham neighborhoods. We aim to reduce that difference.

Besides adding beauty, trees provide shade to cool us during heat spells, reduce noise and dust, boost property values, reduce flooding, produce oxygen, absorb carbon dioxide, improve wellbeing and health, reduce energy costs, and much more.

Information/help sessions

Need help filling out the registration form or just want to learn more before deciding?
Two informative sessions are offered. We’ll provide details on all the available tree species, general guidance on where to plant and how to care for them, plus answer any other questions you may have about the tree giveaways.
The first session was online and recorded. You can access that recording by clicking here.

Note: If you live just across the street from a neighborhood boundary, you may still be eligible.

7 Native Tree Species to Choose From:

The Giveaway events will take place near the Civic Athletic Complex, during three weekend afternoons in March. During registration, you’ll be asked to select which of the dates will work for you to pick up or receive delivery of your tree(s). Then, in the first week of March, you’ll receive an email confirming the date for which you are scheduled.
